Lethal Lockhart seals victory at last for U12 Griffins

Griffins finally tasted victory this season - and did it in style.

A handy Elstead side were favourites going into thid South Surrey Youth League clash but Albury gained an early penalty for handling and it was coolly finished off by Matias Gomez.

Attacking play from Sharks and disarray at the back for the hosts though soon saw goal-keeper Hugo Lawrence lobbed for the equaliser.

Chance after chance was wasted at the other end though, both Gomez and Joe Edwards glancing the woodwork with efforts, and they were hit on the break to reach half time in a state of shellshock.

But a better organised home side were obvious in the second half and they were soon level courtesy of Sam Breach.

Edwards was industrious in marshalling the defence while Christian Scott proved dogged and Nicholas Fisher outpaced the visitors on the wing.

Griffins went ahead again on the break when Lockhart's fancy footwork set up Jasper Whitefield. And with their spirit's soaring, Breach outpaced his cover on the left before blasting the fourth.

Elsead would not go quietly, hitting a goal against the run of play, but with time running out Will Stannett played the ball into a crowded box for Lockhart to crash it into the net and Lockhart's fine solo effort capped a fine day lead by man-of-the-match Scott's work.

U13s Complete League and Cup Double

Having been crowned division B champions two weeks ago Albury's under 13's capped off a fantastic season by winning the Laker Memorial Cup 4-3 against the division A champions, Broadbridge Heath. Our squad has consistanlty played well all season. They played 19 matches, drawing only 1 they scored 116 goals, conceded 22 giving a massive goal differece of 94.

Yesterday saw them playing against the league A champions Broadbridge Heath. Along the way they had beaten three division A teams but arguably the toughest game was the 1-0 win over the Griffins.

Although very wet the pitch was in good condition. After nearly conceding an early goal from a quick break at the kick off our boys began to press forward. within 20 minutes we had gone 2-0 up with goals by Lucas Simonian and Jamie Bloomfeld. Broadbridge Heath came back hard scoring two goals. Two further goals by Billy Cory-Wright and Jamie Bloomfield put us ahead 4-2 with 10 minutes to go. With the pitch cutting up and a massive amount of time added we held on to a sensational 4-3 win.

Its been a fantastic season. All of the boys have played their part as have our band of merry supporters. Time for a well earned break over the summer.
